HONG KONG (MarketWatch) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao stepped down Wednesday as head of the nation's Communist Party, clearing the way for Vice President Xi Jinping to take over, according to Chinese state media reports which cited motions approved at the conclusion on the 18th Party Congress. As expected, Xi and Vice Premier Li Keqiang were both elected to the party's Central Committee, the Xinhua news agency reported. Li is widely expected to take over from outgoing Premier Wen Jiabao.
